Islam (Arabic: الإسلام (is a monotheistic religion, which, accordingto its followers, is based on the teachings of the Qur'an, the
last divine book brought to humans bythe last Rasul and prophet of Allah, Muhammad Sallahu alaihi and Sallam. The Quran
was composed in the Arabic language and is read in the same language by 25% of the world's total population, ie
approximately 1.6 to 1.8 billion people; Out of these (accordingto sources) it is the mother tongue of about 20 to 30 crore
people. Hazrat Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi and Sallam are the two books purportedly written bytheir mouths and the Shari'a
that provide instructions to follow the book are the two resources that rightlyidentifythe source of information of Islam.
Unity of god
Muslims believe in a single God whom they call Allah (Persian: God). Monotheism is called Tauheed in Arabic, which comes from the word vahid which means one. In Islam, God is considered beyond human comprehension. Muslims have been asked to pray to God instead of imagining God. God is unique according to Muslims - there is no one like him. A unique concept of God has been emphasized in Islam and it is also believed that it is beyond human to describe it completely. Say:
Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi and Sallam
(550-323) attained supreme knowledge in Mecca hills around 610. When he started preaching, the rich people of Mecca considered it a threat to their social and religious system and opposed them. Finally, in 622, he had to travel from Mecca to Medina with his followers. This journey is called Hijri and it is from here that the Islamic calendar begins. The lives of the people of Madina were disturbed by mutual battles and the messages of Hazrat Muhammad Sallahu Alaihi and Sallam Sahab made them very popular there. Kabako located in Mecca was declared a holy site of Islam. In 632, Prophet Muhammad Sallahu Alaihi and Sallam Sahab died. But by the time of his death, all Arab tribes had become part of a political and social civilization under the influence of Islam. After this, the Khilafat phase began in Islam.
5 Pillars of Islam
There are two major classes of Islam, Shia and Sunni. Both have their own Islamic rules but the basic principles are similar. Many Sunnis do not consider Shias completely Muslims. In Sunni Islam, every Muslim has 5 essential duties which are also called the 5 pillars of Islam. Slightly different doctrines are called stanzas in Shia Islam. There are 5 pillars of Sunni Islam-
To witness (martyrdom) - It literally means to bear witness. In Islam it means by this Arabic declaration:
Arabic: لا اله الا الله Ù…Øمد رسول الله
Transcription: "La ilaha ilallahu muhammadurrasulullah"
Hindi: There is no Mabud except Allah and Hazrat Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is the righteous close of Allah and the last Rasul (apostle).
With this declaration, every Muslim testifies to the belief in the monotheism of God and the Messenger of Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. This is the most prominent principle of Islam. It is mandatory for every Muslim to accept it
Prayer (Salat) - It is also called Namaz in Persian. It is a type of prayer that is recited in the Arabic language by a particular rule. According to Islam, Namaz shows man's gratitude towards God. It is read by facing towards Kava (Mecca). It is compulsory for every Muslim to offer Namaz 5 times a day. In the condition of compulsion and illness (easy rules are stated in the Shari'ah) it cannot be avoided.
Fasting (Ramadan) (Saum) - According to this, in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar it is compulsory for all able Muslims to fast (stay hungry and thirsty) from sunrise (fajr) to sunset (maghrib). This fast is also called Roza. Eating and drinking every type of food is prohibited. Other vain deeds also keep oneself away. Sexual activities are also prohibited. It is not necessary to keep fast in compulsion. There are many purposes of fasting, two of which are to draw attention from the rest of the world to experience closeness to God and secondly to have knowledge of the problems and troubles of the poor, beggars and the hungry.
Daan (zakat) - This is an annual donation which is compulsory for every financially capable Muslim to be distributed among poor Muslims. Most Muslims donate 2.5% of their annual income. This is a religious duty because according to Islam, man's capital is actually the gift of God. And by donating, there is safety of life and goods.
Pilgrimage (Hajj) - Hajj is the name of a religious pilgrimage which is done in the 12th month of the Islamic calendar by visiting Mecca. It is mandatory for every dedicated Muslim (who can afford Hajj and is not forced) to do it once in his life.
